Greenworks helps Mapeley to shrink its carbon footprint by turning back to the taps

LONDON, 29 October, 2007: Greenworks Solutions has succeeded in winning a contract to supply mains-fed water coolers to property outsourcing leader Mapeley. The contract is for the provision of approximately 1500 mains-fed water coolers to sites within Mapeley’s property portfolio. By replacing bottled water coolers with mains-fed units, Mapeley will substantially reduce costs, the emissions caused by bottled water deliveries, and plastic bottles contributing to landfill.

In the tender for the five year contract, Greenworks advocated the benefits of its product by anticipating significant savings as the price of tap water is, on average, 500 times lower than that of bottled water. Tracy Young, Head of Procurement at Mapeley said: “The decision to tender for mains-fed water coolers has ensured that the environmental, commercial and operational objectives have been met. This project is a great example of how we can work together with our clients to ensure that efficiencies are gained for all parties.”

Greenworks water coolers purify, chill and dispense water straight from the mains water supply, eradicating the need for plastic bottles and regular water deliveries. In contrast to the fortnightly or weekly deliveries required for the provision of bottled water, Greenworks water cooler units only require an average of two services each per year in order to ensure they are functioning to the highest standards.

Adam Warren, Director, Greenworks said: “It’s really refreshing to see a large organisation make responsible purchasing decisions which benefit the environment. At Greenworks we are dedicated to reducing the problem of water miles, polluting production processes and plastic bottles, around 500,000 tonnes of which end up in landfill, incinerators or littering our streets and countryside every year.”

Greenworks has ensured that Mapeley’s water management system is run in the most effective manner by providing a secure micro-site through which the company can access real-time reports on installations and maintenance visits, as well as carbon reduction reports throughout the contract. As part of the deal Greenworks guarantees rapid responses to client requests and a consolidated invoice system for maximum efficiency. The contract was awarded following an extensive European tender process, in which Greenworks was assessed on both technical and commercial merits.
