The Greencare Foundation (Registered Charity 1132214) has been set up to raise awareness of and funds for sustainable water and sanitation projects in Africa.
People in the UK spend over £1.7 billion on bottled water every year. Worldwide the figure is closer to £25 billion. Although bottled water costs 500 times more than tap water we still drink vast quantities of it !
The production and delivery of this bottled water has a huge negative environmental impact.
A quarter of all this water crosses a national border to meet consumers. Every day, people in England drink bottled water from Fiji or Canada and people in Japan drink bottled water from Iceland or France, whilst in Africa thousands of people are dying because they do not have access to clean drinking water.
We think a solution is really rather simple. Give up drinking bottled water at home. Stop drinking bottled water in the office or the gym. Don’t feel embarrassed or pressured into buying expensive bottled water in restaurants and hotels.
Pledge a small part of all the money you’re saving to doing a bit of good. Most of us wouldn’t notice the difference!
